1st Amendment
Guarantees freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the government.
2nd Amendment
Protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
3rd Amendment
Prohibits the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner's consent.
4th Amendment
Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures, requiring warrants based on probable cause.
5th Amendment
Guarantees due process of law, protects against self-incrimination, double jeopardy, and ensures just compensation for property taken for public use.
6th Amendment
Guarantees the right to a speedy and public trial, the right to legal counsel, and the right to confront witnesses.
7th Amendment
Guarantees the right to a jury trial in civil cases.
8th Amendment
Prohibits excessive bail and cruel and unusual punishment.
9th Amendment
States that the enumeration of specific rights in the Constitution does not mean that other rights, not specifically listed, are not also protected.
10th Amendment
Reserves powers not delegated to the federal government to the states or the people.
