clean and tidy area, can only bring your instructions or WS/reports, no personal items
keep aisles clear
push chair under the desk when not in use
know locations and operating procedures, where appropriate, for ally safety equipment
first aid, eye-wash station, safety shower, fire extinguisher, and fire blanket, fire alarm, and exits are located
always work in a well-ventilated area
use fume hood when working with volatile substances or poisonous vapors. never place your head into the fume hood
be alert and proceed with caution at all times in the lab
notify the instructor immediately of any unsafe conditions you see
dispose of all chemical waste properly
never mix chemicals in sink drains. sink=water,
soild chemicals, metals, matches, filter paper, and all other insoluble materials to be disposed of in the proper waster containers. (check labels x2)
labels and equipment instructions must be read carefully before use.
set up an use the prescribed apparatus as directed in the lab instructions or by your instructor
Keep hands away from face, eyes, mouth, and body while using chemicals or preserved specimens
wash your hands with soap and water after performing all experiments. Clean all work surfaces and apparatus at the end of the experiment. return all equipment clean and in working order to the proper storage area
experiments must be personally monitored at all times
you will be assigned to a lab station to work, do not wander around the room, distract other students, or interfere with others labs
students are never permitted in the science storage rooms or prep areas unless
given specific instruction by their instructor
Know what to do if there is a fire drill during a lab period
containers must be closer, gas valves off, fume hoods off, and any electrical equipment off
when using knives carry them faced down
always cut away from your body, never try to catch falling sharp instruments, only use their handles
If you have a medical condition
check with your physician prior to working in lab
any time chemicals, heat, glassware are used
students wear googles, no exceptions
