Glucose Regulation
The process by which the body maintains blood glucose within a narrow range (~70–110 mg/dL) to provide energy for cells.
Pancreas
The organ that monitors blood glucose levels and releases hormones (insulin and glucagon) to maintain homeostasis.
Insulin
Hormone released by beta cells of the pancreas when blood glucose is high; promotes glucose uptake by cells and storage as glycogen.
Glucagon
Hormone released by alpha cells of the pancreas when blood glucose is low; stimulates glycogen breakdown and glucose release into the blood.
Negative Feedback Loop (in glucose regulation)
Blood glucose levels rise or fall, triggering hormone release that restores glucose to normal levels.
