Collage

An artistic technique where materials like magazines, newspaper clippings, ribbons, paints, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of artworks or texts, photographs, and other found objects are glued together to a piece of paper or canvas.

Decollage

The opposite of collage, created by cutting, treating away, or removing pieces of an original image.

Graffiti

Writing or drawing that has been scribbled, scratched, or painted illicitly on a wall or other surface, often in a public space.

Land-Art

Also known as earth work or earth art, it refers to art created in nature using materials such as soil, rock, organic media, water, and other natural elements.

Digital Arts

New media art that involves using digital technology, mass production, or digital media in the production of art.

Mixed Media

Artwork created with more than one medium, such as a work on canvas that combines paint, ink, and collage.

Print-Making

The process of making artworks by painting, normally on paper, metal plates, stone, blocks of wood, or linoleum.

Assemblage

A series of artworks made from paper collages, wood scraps, and other found objects.

Installation Art

A form of contemporary art that involves the arrangement of objects in a given space.

Frottage

The technique of rubbing with crayon on a piece of paper placed over an object or an image to create an impression using items like leaves, woods, wire screen, or metal with embossed images or words.

Trapunto painting

A technique used by Pacita Abad where canvases are padded, sewn, and filled with sequins, beads, shell, buttons, tiny mirrors, bits of glass, rickrack, swatches of precious textiles, and other materials.

Pacita Abad

The artist who used the Trapunto painting technique to create padded and sewn canvases filled with items picked up from her travels.
