Personality
Those relatively stable and enduring aspects of individuals which distinguish them from other people, making them unique but at the same time permit a comparison between individuals
Social Learning Theory
Explanation as to how our personalities develop. We learn from other people, example is watching our parents do something then doing the same thing. Stages are attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivational response. States that personality is constantly changing. Does not consider inherited traits
Interactionist approach to personality
States that we base our behavior on inherent traits and then adapt to the situation we are in. Behavior = Function (personality and environment)
Issues associated with measurement of personality
Data collection issues, validity and reliability issues and ethical issues like confidentiality, use of results and predicting performance
Issues in personality research and sports performance
Athlete vs non- athlete- may discourage non-athletes from trying sport which doesn't fit their personality, personality and sport type- same as above, predicting performance- not always accurate and can cause people not to play
