Gluteus maximus
The largest muscle in the human body, located in the buttocks, responsible for the movement of the hip and thigh.
Semimembranosus
A large muscle located in the back of the thigh, part of the hamstring group, responsible for flexing the knee and extending the hip.
Semitendinosus
A long muscle located in the back of the thigh, part of the hamstring group, responsible for flexing the knee and extending the hip.
biceps femoris
a large muscle in the posterior compartment of the thigh, part of the hamstring group, which flexes the knee and laterally rotates the leg when the knee is flexed, and also extends the hip joint (long head only)
rectus femoris
A muscle located in the front of the thigh, part of the quadriceps group, responsible for extending the knee and flexing the hip.
vastus lateralis

vastus medialis
A muscle located on the inner part of the thigh, part of the quadriceps group, responsible for extending the knee.
sartorius
A long, thin muscle that runs down the length of the thigh, responsible for flexing the hip and knee, and allowing for the crossing of the legs.

A large muscle located in the back of the lower leg, part of the calf, responsible for plantar flexing the foot and flexing the knee.
tibialis anterior
A muscle located in the front of the lower leg, responsible for dorsiflexing the foot and inverting the ankle.
peroneus longus
A muscle located on the outer side of the lower leg, responsible for everting the foot and assisting in plantar flexion.
peroneus brevis
A muscle located on the outer side of the lower leg, responsible for everting the foot and aiding in plantar flexion.
