Ethics
A system of moral principles that guides decisions and behavior; a form of moral philosophy. Derived from the Greek word ethos.
Ethos
The Greek word meaning custom, habit, character, or disposition.
Integrity
Adherence to moral and ethical principles; consistency and honesty in actions.
Honesty
Truthfulness and sincerity in one’s actions and statements.
Honor
Respect and ethical standing earned through principled conduct.
Conscience
The inner sense of right and wrong guiding one’s actions.
Right
The morally correct action or entitlement in a given situation.
Fairness
Impartial and just treatment of others.
Responsibility
Duty to fulfill obligations and be accountable for actions.
Value
The importance or worth placed on principles, beliefs, or outcomes.
Moral
Pertaining to principles of right and wrong behavior.
Morals
Rules for right conduct held by individuals or a society.
Moral Ambiguity
A situation with no single clear right answer; multiple plausible options.
Least Worst Answers
Choosing the best option among several bad or less ideal choices.
Ethical Framework
A structure of principles used to determine right from wrong and guide behavior.
Moral Map
A guide created by ethics to navigate moral problems and disagreements.
Code of Ethics
A formal set of principles guiding professionals’ conduct and decision-making.
Code of Conduct
Rules specifying expected behavior and penalties for violations within an organization.
Accountability
Being morally responsible for actions and their outcomes.
Welfare
Care, well-being, or treatment of others as derived from social roles.
Social Role
The position one occupies in society that shapes ethical obligations.
Moral Agency
The capacity to make and act on moral decisions.
Business Ethics
The study of right and wrong behavior, standards, and practices in business.
Ethical Standards
Norms by which a group judges actions as good or bad.
Profession
A group organized to serve specialized knowledge; requires skills and competencies.
Engineering (professional context)
A discipline applying mathematics and physical sciences to improve society’s well-being.
PRC (Professional Regulation Commission)
The Philippine licensing and regulatory body for professionals, including civil engineers.
