What is Molarity ?
Molarity is a way of expressing the concentration of a solution.
What are moles and why do we need them ?
why-can’t count individual atoms or molecules
what - unit of measurement that equals avogadro’s number of that particular element/compound
Avogadro’s number= 6.022×1023 particles
What equation do we use to find the number of moles ?
moles = mass (g) /Molar mass (g/mol)
What is the equation for molarity ?
1L = 1000ml = 1,000,000 microl
1L = 1 dm3
Concentration ( mol/L) = moles(mol)/volume (L)
What equation do you use when you dilute a sample?
note- the amount of moles stay the same
so therefore
C (final )= c ( initial )x v( initial)/v (final)
What is the general equation for ratio reactions in the liquid phase ?
A X + B Y = Product
A(CX x Vx) = B(CY x Vy)
where:
A = the number
B= the number
What is Molality?
Molality (m) is defined as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent (mol/kg).
What is normality ?
•Normality (N) is defined as the number of moles equivalents per litre (eq/L).
-specifically only used for acids and bases
-calculated by the amount of h+ or oh-
