Knowt
A free online foreign language learning platform that works based on the rules of the spaced repetition technique and personal learning plans to help students memorize vocabulary through flashcards and quizzes.
Spaced Repetition
A learning technique used by the Knowt platform to facilitate the retrieval of previously learned knowledge by reinforcing information that the brain initially deemed nonessential, transferring it into long-term memory.
Kai
The name of the artificial intelligence (AI) integrated into the Knowt platform that functions as an intelligent assistant for learners.
Memory (Tulving)
The ability that allowed organisms to benefit from their past experiences.
Neural Plasticity
A phenomenon described by Anderson (2015) where the ability to retain information is primarily dependent on changes in neural connections.
Sensory Memory (SM)
The brain's initial storage system described by Goddard (2012) which holds unprocessed information briefly and has a large storage capacity despite fading rapidly without attention.
Short-term Memory (STM)
A temporary storage system that retains information for a duration of approximately 18 seconds according to Bernstein and Nash (2008).
Long-term Memory (LTM)
The storage stage reached after information is rehearsed multiple times, allowing it to persist for minutes to hours or longer before potential forgetting if not reviewed.
Personalized Learning Plan
A method that saves time and helps learners control the amount of knowledge they have learned by utilizing techniques that stimulate active recall and discipline.
Gamification
The application of game elements such as scores, levels, and competition to non-game activities, which the Knowt platform uses to increase learner motivation and engagement.
Second Brain
A concept suggested by Tiago Forte (2022) referring to artificial intelligence note-taking tools combined with a personalized mode that help learners organize and retain information better.
Chu Van An High School
The specific institution where the researchers conducted the experiment with 30 grade 10 students over a period of 8 weeks.Index of students included participants like S30 who improved from 1616 to 8080 vocabulary retention.

stand on
To be in an upright position, or to maintain a particular physical posture that supports one's weight.
