What is a hypothesis?
An educated guess formulated at the start of an investigation; must be testable.
What is the null hypothesis (H0)?
There is no significant difference between the groups.
What does a significance level of 0.05 indicate?
There is a 5% chance of being wrong in rejecting the null hypothesis.
Define a one-tailed hypothesis.
Involves a direction of the distribution either under or above a specified value.
What is a two-tailed hypothesis?
Involves the whole distribution, considering differences that could go either way.
What is a Type 1 error?
Rejecting a true null hypothesis and accepting a false alternative hypothesis.
What is a Type 2 error?
Not rejecting a false null hypothesis.
What does 'power of a study' mean?
The probability of rejecting a false null hypothesis.
What is the purpose of a t test?
To compare the means of two groups of normal data.
What is Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)?
A statistical method used to compare the means of more than two groups.
