Tell us about yourself and why you would like to work as a Medical Records Officer at Canterbury Hospital.
I'm Johnny. I've been volunteering at Concord Hospital since September 2025 through Project SEARCH — working in Medical Records, the Performance Unit, and the Cancer Centre. I'm reliable, always on time, and I take pride in my work. I love hospital work — it feels like home. I want to turn my volunteering into a paid career right here at Canterbury Hospital — this is where I belong.
Tell us about your experience working in Medical Records at Concord Hospital.
In Medical Records, I process, index, and file daily medical records using Medical Record Numbers so they can be found quickly. I make sure every record is in the right place and in the right order. I’m very careful, I double-check everything, and I follow all NSW Health privacy and confidentiality rules exactly. I show up on time every day, I work hard, and I always make sure my work is accurate and ready for the team.
How do you make sure your work is accurate and that you follow confidentiality requirements?
For accuracy — I take my time, don't rush, and double-check everything. If I'm unsure, I ask. For privacy — I treat every record as strictly confidential. I never discuss patient details with anyone who doesn't need to know. I follow all NSW Health privacy rules exactly — protecting people's information is the most important part of this job.
Tell us about a time you worked as part of a team at Concord Hospital.
We often work together to process large batches of records — some collect, some index, some file. We communicate, help each other, and let the team know when we're finished. Being reliable helps everyone — when my work is done well, it makes their jobs easier. We all look out for each other so the hospital runs smoothly.
What would you do if you were given a task and you weren't sure how to complete it?
I would ask my supervisor or an experienced team member. It's better to ask and do it correctly than guess and make a mistake. I'd listen carefully, learn the right way, and remember it for next time. I always want to follow NSW Health procedures and do things properly.
