Prokaryotic Cells
Cells lacking a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles.
Eukaryotic Cells
Cells containing a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.
Organelles
Structures within a cell that perform specific functions.
Nucleus
Control center of the cell, containing the nucleolus and chromatids.
Nucleolus
Site of ribosome production within the nucleus.
Chromatids
Long strands of DNA in the nucleus that condense into chromosomes during cell replication.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Network of membranes involved in protein and lipid synthesis.
Rough ER
ER covered in ribosomes, giving it a rugged appearance and aiding in protein synthesis.
Smooth ER
ER with enzymes, proteins, and lipids used in different areas of the cell.
Golgi Body
Organelle that packages proteins.
Lysosomes
Organelles found in animal cells that release their contents outside the cell.
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell, converting glucose into ATP.
Centrioles
Organelles found only in animal cells, made of microtubules, and help in cell division.
Microtubules
Thick protein tubes that make up centrioles and help in cell division.
