Describe the life in the colonies before 1763

The population was on the rise and the colonies were freely governed by themselves.

The Proclamation of 1763 prevented colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists argued in letters and articles that it was tyranny, an unjust use of government power.

How did Loyalists and the Patriots respond differently to the Stamp Act?

Loyalists refused to buy stamps and wrote letters to Parliament. Patriots protested, rioted, and attacked tax collectors.

What was the Quartering Act?

The act required colonists to quarter, or house, British troops and provide them with food and other supplies.

How did the colonists react to the Townshend Act?

They boycotted British goods by making their own cloth, tea, and other taxed goods. They also wrote letters to the other colonies encouraging them to do the same.
