Epistaxis
Nosebleed; treatment includes pinching the nose for 15-20 minutes.
Nasal Turbinates
Vascular structures in the nasal cavity that appear light red; inspect for swelling and polyps.
Halo Sign
A ring of color indicating cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage.
Angular Chelilitis
A condition characterized by cracks or sores at the corner of the mouth, often associated with vitamin deficiencies.
Buccal
Referring to the surface of the teeth that is closest to the cheek.
Gingivitis
Inflammation of the gums, often causing redness, swelling, and bleeding.
Candidiasis
A fungal infection in the mouth that appears as white patches on the tongue.
Torus Palatinus
A benign bony growth located on the midline of the hard palate.
Ankyloglossia
A condition also known as 'tongue-tie,' where the tongue's range of motion is restricted.
Peri-tonsillar Abscess
A bacterial infection causing swelling near the tonsils, potentially displacing the uvula.
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)
A joint that connects the jaw to the skull; dysfunction can lead to grinding and pain.
Macroglossia
Enlarged tongue; can be associated with various medical conditions.
Oropharynx
The part of the throat located behind the mouth; inspection reveals pink, moist tonsils without exudate.
Frenulum
The midline fold of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth.
Carcinoma
A type of cancer that can affect tissues in the mouth and throat.
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate
Congenital conditions characterized by openings or splits in the upper lip and/or the roof of the mouth.
