newtons first law
A body at rest will stay at rest, and a body in motion will stay in motion and move in a straight line unless acted on by another force.
newtons second law
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force applied (F = ma).
newtons third law
When two objects interact, they apply a force to each other that is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
mass
measure of inertia of an object (property of the object itself)
weight
The force exerted on an object by gravity. W = mg.
normal force
The force perpendicular to the surface that an object is contacting.
free body diagram
depicts all forces acting on an object. When there are multiple masses, an FBD needs to be made for each object.

static friction
Frictional force between two surfaces that are not moving relative to each other. The static frictional force increases as applied force increases.

kinetic friction
Force that opposes the motion of an object while it is moving.

friction force graph

coefficient of friction
unitless value between 0 and 1 that tells you the amount of resistance two objects have when sliding against each other.
tension
a (pulling) force carried out by a rope or cable attached to an object. It sometimes needs to be broken up into X and Y components.
tension for a hanging object
T = mg + ma
Upward motion = positive acceleration, downward motion = negative acceleration.
newtons fourth law
sometimes when you try to fart and a lil shit come out
