SOG 420-09 Purpose
To provide tactical guidelines for the effective operation of Aerial Companies.
SOG 420-09 Authority
Fire Rescue Administrator.
SOG 420-09 Scope
Applies to all Emergency Operations personnel.
Aerial Company Primary Tasks (Group 1)
Search and rescue, Elevated victim rescue, Ventilation, Forcible entry, and Laddering a building.
Aerial Company Primary Tasks (Group 2)
Provide elevated master streams, Control of utilities, Salvage and Loss Control, Illumination, Checking for fire extension, and Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) assignment.
RIC
Rapid Intervention Crew.
Incident Commander (IC) Role
Assigns Truck Company functions to Engine or Rescue Companies in the absence or delay of an Aerial's response.
Apparatus Positioning Clearance
Units should leave at least 25 feet of clearance behind the Aerial to prevent blocking access to ground ladders.
Driver Operator Positioning Responsibility
Ensuring the Aerial is positioned away from electrical wires for safe operation.
Side Delta Positioning Example
If an elevated rescue is needed on side Delta, the Aerial should immediately set up on side Delta.
Side Bravo Positioning Example
If a Defensive master stream is needed on side Bravo, then the Aerial should set up on side Bravo.
First Arriving Aerial Responsibility
The Company Officer must ensure the Aerial is utilized in the most efficient manner, choosing between Engine or Aerial capacity.
Water Supply Coordination
Positioning of the Aerial shall not impede the Engine Company's efforts to advance hose lines or access a water supply.
