Width Formula

The calculation (max-min)/(amount) used to determine the width of data ranges.

Lower Limits

The lower boundaries of a data range.

Upper Limits

The upper boundaries of a data range.

Midpoint

The value that lies in the middle of a range.

Width

The difference between consecutive lower limits in a data set.

Mean

The average of a data set, calculated by dividing the total by the amount.

Median

The middle value of a data set; if there is a tie, the average of the two middle values is taken.

Mode

The number that occurs most frequently in a data set.

Midrange

The average of the maximum and minimum values in a data set.

Frequency Table

A table that shows how common values are within a specific width.

Relative Frequency Table

A table where percentages replace literal amounts to show frequency.

Cumulative Frequency Table

A table that accounts for all previous ranges in a data set.
