Microcontroller Application: Chapter 1

Microprocessor

Putting the entire CPU on a single IC chip. They do not contain RAM, ROM, or I/O peripherals. They must be connected externally to RAM, ROM, and I/O.

Microcontroller

CPU, RAM, ROM, and I/Os are put together on a single IC chip.

Desktop Computer

They include PCs, tablets, and laptops, are general purpose computers. They can be used to play games, read and edit articles, and do any other task just by running the proper application programs. They use microprocessors.

Embedded Systems

Special-purpose computers. The software applications and hardware are embedded together and are designed to do a specific task. A printer is an example of an embedded system because the processor inside it performs one task only; namely, getting the data and printing it. Most cases they run a fixed program and contain a microcontroller. They are they largest class of computers.

Servers

Fast computers which might be used as web hosts, database servers, and in any application in which we need to process a huge amount of data such as weather forecasting. They are made of microprocessors but, multiple processors are usually used in each server.

Mechatronic Systems

The integration between components (hardware) and the information-driven functions (software), resulting in integrated systems.
