TOTAL momentum before a collision is equal to TOTAL momentum after the collision provided that no external resultant forces act on the system/closed system
Relationship between force and momentum?
F=ma
F=m*(v-u/t) Since a=v-u/t
F=mv-mu/t
Force is equal to rate of change in momentum
F=change in P/change in time
What is impulse?
Impulse is force into time
I=F*t
Impulse is equal to change in momentum
F*t=mv-mu
Two types of collision
Elastic collision and inelastic collision (both SCALERS)
Elastic collision
K.E is conserved
K.E before collision=K.E after the collision
Inelastic collision
K.E is not conserved but it is converted to other forms of energy e.g heat energy ect…
Therefore total energy remains constant
