Halogens
Group Seven elements that are all non-metals found on the right of the periodic table.
Covalent bond
The pair of electrons shared between two atoms.
Hydrogen chloride
A covalent compound formed when chlorine reacts with hydrogen.
Ionic compounds
Compounds formed when halogens react with metals, resulting in the formation of ions.
Chloride ion
The ion formed when a chlorine atom gains one electron, resulting in an overall charge of -1.
Group Seven ions
Ions formed by halogens that all have a negative one charge.
Fluoride
The ion formed when fluorine gains one electron.
Covalent compound
A compound formed when two non-metal elements bond by sharing electrons.
Charge cancelation
The phenomenon where the number of positive protons balances the number of negative electrons in a neutral atom.
Negative one charge
The charge taken by halogen ions after gaining an electron from a metal.
