Compound
A substance made up of two or more elements that are chemically combined.
Binary Compound
A compound made up of two elements chemically combined.
Heterogeneous Mixture
A mixture in which the components are distinct.
Colloid
A mixture with particles that never settle and shows the Tyndall effect.
Suspension
A mixture with particles that settle over time.
Atom
The smallest particle of an element.
Molecule
Formed when atoms are bonded covalently.
Hydrate
A compound that contains water in its chemical structure.
Solution
A homogeneous mixture where substances are evenly distributed.
Physical Properties
Characteristics that can be observed without changing the substance (e.g., melting point, color, size).
Chemical Change
A change that results in new substances being formed.
Signs of Chemical Change
Indicators that a chemical reaction has occurred (e.g., color change, temperature change, gas formation).
Physical Change
A change that affects a substance's appearance but not its identity.
Law of Conservation of Mass
States that mass is conserved during chemical reactions.
Nucleus
The central part of an atom, containing protons and neutrons.
Protons
Positively charged particles located in the nucleus of an atom.
Neutrons
Neutral particles located in the nucleus of an atom.
Electrons
Negatively charged particles found in the electron cloud surrounding the nucleus.
