demand characteristics

when a participant guesses the aim of the study and change their behaviour accordingly

non directional hypothesis

researcher predicts that there will be a difference between two conditions, without stating the direction

directional hypothesis

states the direction of the predicted differences between two conditions

alternative hypothesis

a prediction that the IV will impact the DV

null hypothesis

prediction that the IV won't impact the DV, any differences observed are due to chance
