Surface Grinders
These are frequently utilized in manufacturing facilities to attain an impeccable finish on flat surfaces using finishing procedures.
It is a precise and well-known instrument for finishing metallic or non-metallic surfaces and substances using abrasive machining methods.
Horizontal-Spindle (Peripheral) Surface Grinders
It is made of high-tensile cast iron and is intended for vibration dampening and shock absorption. It comprises a base, a hydraulic reservoir, a pump, and an adjustable speed. It has the ability to move the machine saddle and table in transverse or longitudinal directions, as well as feed the workpiece longitudinally against the rotating grinding wheel.
Vertical-Spindle (Wheel-Face) Grinders
It has a hollow spindle, segmental grinding wheels, and built-in safety interlocks. In simply one stroke, for example, it can grind heavy stock removal, engine block grinding, cylinder head grinding, and refractory brick grinding.
Disc Grinders and Double-Disc Grinders
Flat workpieces are produced using disc surface grinders, with single and double models being the most prolific. Single grinders use abrasive particles, whereas double grinders grind parallel faces at the precise time, finishing the workpiece in a single pass.
Surface Grinder's Grinding Wheel
It is a cutting instrument that eliminates fine metal dust from the material by employing abrasive particles that vary in size based on the desired material, surface polish, and cutting circumstances (wet or dry grinding).
Base
It is the underlying structure or base supports the entire system and absorbs all vibrations in a surface grinder.
Hand Traversing Wheel
The worktable's longitudinal position is controlled by the _____ in a surface grinder. The worktable can be moved forward and backward to be more efficient.
Cross Slide Handwheel
It can be utilized for controlling the horizontal and vertical movement in a surface grinder. This procedure facilitates in properly positioning the work item in relation to the grinding wheel.
Work Table
It is where the object needs to be appropriately gripped in a surface grinder.
Column
A straight _____ with an abrasive wheel, wheel guard, and wheel head mounted on top of it in a surface grinder.
Wheel Head
In order for the grinding wheel to contact the work piece in a surface grinder, the _____ is essentially a segment that must be adjusted in an up and down motion.
Vertical Feed Handwheel
The feed is supplied to the wheel head via the _____ in a surface grinder, which also serves as a gauge for the depth of cut when viewed from the exterior of the workpiece.
Wheel Guard
To reduce accidents, it serves as an enclosure for the grinding wheel in a surface grinder.
Abrasive Wheel
Its function is to remove debris from the work piece's surface in a surface grinder. To attain great precision, it is covered in abrasives.
Coolant
In order to prevent heat from dissipating into the workpiece and grinding wheel in a surface grinder, its purpose is to lower the temperature of the work area. Water is the most typical _____ utilized.
Welding
It is a fabrication process whereby two or more parts are fused together by means of heat, pressure or both forming a joint to reinforce a structure as the parts cool.
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
It is also known as Metal Inert Gas or MIG welding.
It employs a thin wire as an electrode. As the wire is fed through the welding tool and toward the welding location, it heats up. It is necessary to utilize shielding gas to shield the weld from airborne impurities.
Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
It is commonly known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.
It is a type of welding used to secure some of the world's most significant machinery and equipment. An inert tungsten electrode is used in the _____ welding procedure. Similar to gas metal arc welding (GMAW), the weld puddle and tungsten are cooled and shielded using an inert shielding gas (such as helium or argon).
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
It includes the same usage as the MIG welding process where it also rely on continuous wire-fed electrode but, _____ does not rely mostly to an external shielding gas since it uses a tubular electrode that contains a slag that forms a shielding gas when burned by heat of the welding arc.
FCAW-S (Flux-Cored Arc Welding-Self Shielded)
A type of FCAW wherein the coating's flux burns, generating shielding gases and solidifying slag as a result.
FCAW-G (Flux-Cored Arc Welding-Gas Shielded)
A type of FCAW that uses the external shielding gas as a second shielding for protection against contaminants.
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
It is also known as Stick Welding since it uses a consumable electrode coated in flux.
It is an electric arc welding process that uses a solid metal electrode rod to combine two metals as it comes into contact with the work piece.
The electrode used is called a “Metal rod” where its diameter varies depending on the metal it welds.
As the process goes through, the covering on the electrode produces protective gas to shield the weld while the remaining cover then forms a slag layer that protects and helps shape the weld but it must be removed when it solidifies to avoid rough edges.
