Print Media
A medium of mass communication through printed material, used to reach a large number of people.

Graphic Design
The art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content.
Vector Graphics
Created by accurate calculations, maintains quality sharpness even when enlarged; connected by lines and curves to form polygons. File Formats: .ps .ai .pdf
Raster Graphics
Created by pixels, generally stored in image files with varying formats, including JPEGs or GIFs. File Formats: .jpg .gif .png
Typography
The art of organizing letters and text (words) so that they are easy to read and visually appealing to the reader.
Typeface
The style of text.
Font
The variation of sizes and weights available in that typeface.
Kerning
The process of adjusting the spacing between characters (letters) in a proportional font to achieve a visually pleasing result.
Tracking
Uniformly increasing or decreasing the horizontal spacing between a range of characters.
Leading
The space between adjacent lines of type
Masthead
The title of the printed media, usually found at the top of the front page.
Dateline
A line of text that shows the full date of publication of the newspaper or magazine.
Front Cover Flash
Adverts aimed at announcing promotions, found on the front page of a magazine or newspaper.
Headlines
The titles given to the story, aiming to grab the reader’s attention and provide a brief description of what the story is about.
Columns
The format used to present text onto pages, divided into vertical blocks separated by gutters.
Captions
Also known as cutline, are one or two liners that describe a picture.
Political Bias
When a group of people share the same agenda of promoting a particular party.
Codes
Technical, written, and symbolic instruments are utilized to construct or suggest meaning.
Conventions
Generally accepted ways of constructing form and informing meaning in media products.
