what do we call if all pore space is filled with water (not void )
saturated
some pore spaces have air ( not void again)
unsaturated
it has a water that is positive gage pressure
phreatic
it has a water that is negative gage pressure
vadose
it is a boundary between vadose and phreatic zones: gage pressure is zero at this table.
water table
it is in equilibrium with water table. it lies entirely in the vadose zone and includes both saturated and unsaturated parts
capillary fringe
fraction of rock occupied by pore space.
porosity
a layer that yields sufficient water to be worth pumping. Should be permeable
Aquifer
the opposite of an aquifer, it does not yield enough water to be worth pumping.
Aquitard
place where the water table intersects the land surface and water flows out. Usually
this is a seep if slow enough. Most stream beds are springs.
Spring
is lowering of piezometric surface due to pumping around a well.
Cone of depression
it means that the piezometric surface is above the land surface.
flowing
it is a surface of hydraulic head
