Political Actors
People, organizations, or movements that wield some form of political power or engage with the political process (US Government or the UN)
Stakeholders
People or a person who are impacted by a political issue who are not involved in the issue (The child of a striking factory worker who is able to attend university because their parent took action and got higher wages)
State
An independent government that has control over its own clearly defined territory and people, with a legal system in place and having a constant population (US, India, UK)
Nation-State
A state that includes an ethnic group with a common defined culture as majority of the population (Japan)
Government
A system of people and institutions that make and enforce rules and laws for a country or community(US, India, UK)
Political Parties
Groups of people who have common views about how the government of a state should function (Chinese communist party, united russia, democratic party, republican party)
Political Leaders
A person in charge of some form of government, state, sub-nation, or local. (Trump, Whitmer)
Civil Society
Organizations or groups of people that are not linked to the government, they usually have a common purpose or goal (Royal Oak Area Food Bank)
Inter-Governmental Organizations (IGOs)
2 or more states who promise that they will work together on political issues that are of common interest to all (UN, EU, AU)
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
An organization that aims to help people and try to remain independent from any kind of government influence and are usually non-profit (Doctors Without Boarders)
Private Actor
A person or people who are not directly involved with the government but who have the ability to make change and influence people (Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg)
Social Movements
Groups of people who share a common concern about how society is functioning (Me Too)
Resistance Movements
Groups of people who want change but whose complaints are more directed towards particular government policies, laws and leadership (BLM)
Interest Groups
A formally organized group of people that aim to influence public policy (American Medical Association AMA, American Bar Association ABA)
Political Forums
Meetings of actors to discuss and debate different perspectives on a political issue. Can be formal or informal (Royal Oak City Commission meetings)
Media
A forum that can include online print, and tv that allow for people to share ideas and facts on political issues (instagram, NYT)
