Distance:
Refers to the length an object travels along a path. Meausred in metres
Displacement:
The length and direction of an object from its origin. Measured in metres and is also used for the change in length when an object is compressed or stretched.
Speed:
How fast something travels.
It is a measure of the distance travelled, divided by the amount of time it took to travel that distance.
Time = distance divided by speed
Distance = speed x time
Average speed:
The total distance an object travels, divided by the time it takes to do so.
Measured by Distance divided by time.
Instantaneous speed:
The speed of an object, measured at a particular moment in time.
Displacement:
An object’s position from where it started to where it finished.
Velocity:
How fast something travels in a particular direction.
Measured by: Displacement divided by time
Average velocity:
The rate at which an object is displaced or changes position over a time interval.
Instantaneous velocity:
Change in displacement divided by change in time.
Constant velocity:
When an object is travelling at the same speed without changing direction.
Acceleration (speeding up):
The change in velocity of an object divided by time.
Deceleration (slowing down):
Change in velocity divided by the time when it is slowing down.
Stationary:
It is not moving
Newtons first law of inertia:
An object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an external force.
Inertia:
The tendency of an object to resist a change in its state of motion.
Net force:
The sum of all forces acting upon an object.
Newtons second law of motion:
The net force on an object equals the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration.
Mass:
The quantity of matter in an object, regardless of its volume or any forces acting on it.
