Genesis 2:1-3

Thus the heavens and the earth we're finished, and all the host of them.

\n A on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

\n And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 16:23

And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

Exodus 20:8-11

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.


Six days shalt thou labour, and do all that thy work:


But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor manservant, nor maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:


For in six days the Lord made heaven and Earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exodus 35:3

Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day

Nehemiah 10:31

And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.

Nehemiah 13:15-21

In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.

\n There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

\n Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?

\n Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.

\n And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

\n So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.

\n Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

Numbers 15:33-35

And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

\n And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. \n And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

\n And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses.

Exodus 31:16-17

Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath thoughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.


It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Isaiah 58:13

If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Luke 4:16

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Acts 17:2

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
