Nucleus

Proton

Atomic number Z
The number of protons in a nucleus of an atom which uniquely defines the identity of an element
Atomic mass Y
The total mass of an individual atom calculated as the sum of its protons and neutrons Y equals P plus N
Isotopes
Atoms are the same element that have the same number of protons atomic number, but different numbers of neutrons, resulting in a different atomic mass
Percentage abundance/fractional abundance
The percentage of all atoms of a specific element found in nature that consists of a particular isotope
Average atomic mass Y average
The weighted average mass of naturally occurring isotopes of the element calculated using Y average equals X1Y1+ X2Y2 plus… Where X is fractional abundance
CATION
A positively charged ion formed when a neutral atom or molecule loses one or more electrons
ANION
A negative charged ion formed when a natural atom or molecule gain of one or more electrons
Alpha particle
A positively charged particle consisting of two protons and two neutrons four/ 2 HE injected from large unstable nuclei
Beta decay
