What is the part method
It splits the skill up into parts to help the performer gain confidence by learning each element of the skill separately. Best for low organisation and serial skills
What is whole method
Teaches a skill without breaking it down into parts and helps the player experience the true feel for the skill
What is the whole part whole practice
The skill is first carried out as a whole then practiced in sub parts then put together again as a whole and helps recognise the strengths and weaknesses of the performance and helps to appreciate the kinesthesis involved
What is progressive part practice
A skill is broken down into parts and the performer learns them one part at a time and then linked together in the form of A, AB, ABC.
What is massed practice
Practice that involves very short or no rest intervals within the practice sessions
What is distributed practice
Involves relatively long rests between trials and the rest intervals can involve unrelated tasks to the main practice
What is fixed practice
Involves a stable and predictable practice environment such as a badminton player might repeatedly practice the short flick serve into the opponents service box
What is varied practice
Varied practice so that the performer can come into contact with a range of experiences
