What were the cons of the NHS?

  • Many conservatives opposed the NHS as they believed the cost would be huge

  • Many of the 2688 hospitals were old and needed updating.

  • 25% of GPs were not satisfactory

  • Mainly located in the southeast of London

  • Overcrowding because of more accesibility

  • bad management - government didn’t have money for all the hospitals

  • Doctors saw themselves as independent workers and they were worried they would lose income - many threathen to strike but the government offered them a payment for each patient and allowed fee-paring patients
