Oxygen
gas produced by plants during photosynthesis that animals use for respiration.

Carbon Dioxide
A gas produced by animals during respiration that plants use to make food, water, and oxygen.

Oxygen Cycle
the process by which oxygen released into the atmosphere by photosynthetic organisms is taken up by aerobic organisms while the carbon dioxide released as a by-product of respiration is taken up for photosynthesis.

Consumers
Organisms that eat producers and/or other consumers for food

Photosynthesis
Plants use the sun's energy to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugars

Carbon Cycle
the movement of carbon from the nonliving environment into living things and back

Respiration (plants)
process by which cells obtain energy from glucose

Decomposition
decaying caused by bacterial or fungal action

Fossil Fuels
the remains (or an impression) of a plant or animal that existed in a past geological age and that has been excavated from the soil

Chlorophyll
green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy used to carry out photosynthesis

Plants
create the majority of the oxygen we breathe through a process called photosynthesis.

Sunlight
Some oxygen is produced when sunlight reacts with water vapor in the atmosphere

Carbon
element found in all organic compounds

Producer
organisms that make their own food
