Alopecia
Abnormal hair loss.
Alopecia areata
Hair loss in small, round patches.
Alopecia totalis
Loss of all hair on the scalp.
Alopecia universalis
Loss of all body hair.
Androgenic alopecia
Hair loss caused by genetic and hormonal factors.
Canities
Gray or white hair caused by loss of pigment.
Carbuncles
A cluster of boils caused by a bacterial infection.
Folliculitis
Inflammation or infection of the hair follicle.
Fragilitas crinium
Brittle hair that breaks easily.
Furuncle
A painful, infected hair follicle; also called a boil.
Hirsuties
Excessive hair growth in areas where hair is normally present.
Hypertrichosis
Excessive hair growth in unusual areas or amounts.
Malassezia
A type of yeast associated with certain scalp conditions.
Melanin
Pigment that gives hair, skin, and eyes their color.
Monilethrix
A genetic condition that causes hair to be weak and break easily.
Pediculosis capitis
Head lice infestation.
Pityriasis
A condition involving excessive shedding of skin cells, often causing scales.
Pityriasis capitis simplex
Common dandruff with dry, loose scalp flakes.
Pityriasis steatoides
Severe dandruff with oily scales that stick to the scalp.
Postpartum alopecia
Temporary hair loss after pregnancy.
Ringed hair
Hair with alternating light and dark bands of color.
Scabies
A contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites.
Scutula
Yellowish, cup-shaped crusts caused by a fungal infection.
Tinea
A contagious fungal infection of the skin, hair, or nails.
Tinea favosa
A fungal infection of the scalp that forms yellow crusts.
Trichoptilosis
Split ends caused by splitting of the hair shaft.
Trichorrhexis nodosa
Hair shaft damage that causes weak spots and breakage.
