Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

A mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Various forms of abuse occurring between romantic partners, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.

Dissociative Symptoms

Symptoms that include depersonalization and derealization, present in conjunction with general PTSD criteria.

Cycle of Violence

Hypervigilance

A persistent inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable, associated with PTSD.

Criteria indicating that symptoms must persist for more than one month to meet PTSD diagnosis.

A now-outdated legal concept used in court to justify a woman's killing of her abusive partner, emphasizing the effects of prolonged abuse.
