Helix
The outer rim of the ear. has the general shape of a question mark
Scapha
The fossa between the inner and outer rims of the ear. Shallowest depression of the ear
Anti Helix
The inner rim of the ear. Starts at the superior border of the lobe and continues upward until it ends by becoming the crura. Forms the superior and posterior walls of the Concha.
Crura
The superior and anterior bifurcating branches of the anti helix
Triangular Fossa
Depression between the Crura. Second deepest depression of the ear.
Concha
Concave shell of the ear, the deepest depression of the ear located posterior and superior to the ear passage
Tragus
An elevation protecting the ear passage. Arises from the posterior margin of the lateral cheek.
Antitragus
A small eminence obliquely opposite of the tragus. Located on the superior border of the lobe of the ear.
Intertragic notch
A notch or opening between the tragus and the antitragus of the ear
Lobe - ear
Inferior fatty 1/3rd of the ear. Most inferior part of the ear. Attaches to the cheek.
Crus
The origin of the helix that is flattened and ends at the concha
Dorsum
The anterior protruding ridge of the nose extending from root to tip. Includes the bridge
Root
The apex (top) of the pyramidal mass of the nose, which lies directly inferior to the forehead. The concave dip inferior to the forehead
Bridge
Dome over the nasal cavity. Point of greatest projection. The arched portion of the nose supported by the nasal bones
Wings
Lateral lobes of the nose. The widest part of the nose bordered by the nasal sulcus and the anterior nares.
Columna Nasi
The fleshy termination of the nasal septim at the base of the nose located between the nostrils. Most inferior part of the nose.
Anterior Nares
external nostril openings.
Sides
Lateral walls of the nose located between the wings of the nose and the bridge. They recede laterally from the dorsum.
Lobe - Nose
the rounded anterior projection on the tip of the nose
Philtrum
The verticle groove located on the superior integumentary lip
Labial Sulci
The verticle furrows on the lip extending from within the mucous membranes into the integumentary lip
Angulus Oris Sulcus
The groove at the end of the line of closure
Upper integumentary lip
Upper skin lip
Lower integumentary lip
Lower skin lip
Medial Lobe
Slightly protruding fatty deposit located medially on the upper lip
Line of closure - mouth
Where the superior mucous membrane and inferior mucous membrane meet
Upper mucous membrane
The superior visible red surface of the lips. The lining of the membrane of body cavities which are seen on the surface.
Lower mucous membrane
The inferior visible red surface of the lips. The lining of the membrane of body cavities which are seen on the surface.
Angulus Oris Eminence
the small convex prominence lateral to the end of the line of lip closure of the mouth
Superior Palpebrae
The upper lid. Vertically is three times as large as the lower lid. When normally closed it covers the cornea.
Optical Facial Sulci
The furrows radiating laterally from the lateral corner of the eye. An acquired facial marking.
Line of closure - eyes
The line that forms between the 2 eyelids when they are closed, and which marks their proper place of contact with each other.
Inferior palpebrae
The lower lid. It follows the curve of the eyeball and inclines from the line of closure. the upper lid overlaps the lower lid at the lateral end of the lower lid.
Superior Orbital Area
Region between the supercilium and the superior palpebrae composed of muscle and fat, deepest near the root of the nose
Superior Palpebrae Sulcus
The groove or furrow of the superior border of the superior palpebrae. An acquired facial marking
Cilia
eyelashes - the fringe of hair edging the eyelids
Supercilium
Eyebrows - hair that grows upwards and outwards and is unequal in length. Denser near the glabella
Oblique Palpebrae Sulcus
The shallow dark curving groove below the medial corner of the eyelid. Moves inferior and laterally, a natural facial marking.
Inner Canthus
Small elevation extending medially and obliquely from the medial corner of the superior palpebrae. No eyelashes grow here
Supra Orbital Margin
The superior rim of the eye socket located on the frontal bone
Inferior Palpebral Sulcus
The groove or furrow of the inferior border of the inferior palpebrae. An acquired facial marking
Nasal Orbital Fossa
A triangular concave depression superior to the medial portion of the superior palpebrar
