What is a tissue?
A group of cells that interact for a specific function
What's an organ?
A group of two or more tissues that function as a unit
What's a population?
The same species occupying the same place at the same time
What's a community?
multiple populations in a region
What's an ecosystem?
The nonliving and living components of an area
What's the biosphere?
All the parts of the plant that support life aka the global ecosystem
What are emergent properties?
result from the arrangement and interaction of parts within a system
What are producers/autotrophs?
Organisms that make their own food from energy that comes from nonliving sources.
What are consumers/heterotrophs?
Organisms that get thier energy from eating other organisms either dead or alive

Domain Bacteria and Domain Archaea
What domain is a eukaryote?
Domain Eukarya
What is a prokaryote?
cell without a nucleus (DNA is free in the cell) or membrane bound organelles
What is a eukaryote?
cell with a nucleus
What are the steps of the scientific method?
1.Observation 2.Ask a question 3.Form Hypothesis (consult prior knowledge) 4.Make predictions 5.Collect/Interpret data 6.Draw conclusions(consult prior knowledge) 7.Peer review 8.Publish
A hypothesis needs to be _____________ and _____________.
Testable, falsifiable
Can a hypothesis be proven?
No, only supported
What is a theory?
well-tested explanation from a broad range of observations
What's an independent variable?
The one condition in the experiment that is tested.
What's a dependent variable?
The part of the experiment that changes in response to the changes you made the the independent variable. Also, what is measured.
What is a control group?
The group that does not receive the experimental treatment in an experiment.
What is a control variable?
the variable that stays the same throughout the experiment
