Unipedal Stance Test
Tests fall risk and ability to perform ADLs in the general population.
Modified BESS Test
Assesses postural stability and balance errors — often used for athletes to evaluate concussion symptoms and return-to-play readiness.
Functional Reach Test
Assesses a person’s balance and stability during reaching — used to predict fall risk and functional ability in older adults or clinical populations.
Y-Balance Test
Measures dynamic balance and symmetry between right and left legs — helps predict injury risk.
McGill Endurance Tests
Evaluates core muscular endurance and balance to assess risk for low-back pain or core instability.
Core Function-BP cuff test
Assesses activation and control of the transverse abdominis (TRA) using pressure feedback to test core stability and motor control.
Skinfolds Test
Determines body density, which is used to estimate body fat percentage (via the Siri equation).
Girth Measurements Test
Used to assess changes in body composition by measuring the circumference of specific body sites over time.
YMCA Bike Test Protocol Test
Estimate VO₂max using submaximal HR response to graded workloads.
Safe alternative to maximal tests for general population.
VT1 Test
Identify first ventilatory threshold, where lactate begins accumulating faster than it’s cleared.
Used to determine metabolic training zones.
At VT1, ventilation increases faster than VO₂ because of excess CO₂ production from lactate buffering. Lactate begins to accumulate in the blood faster than it is being cleared.
Queens Step Test
Estimate VO₂max via recovery HR after 3 minutes of stepping.
Rockport Fitness Walking Test
Estimate VO₂max for low-to-moderate fitness clients.
