Energy Store
A category of energy where energy can be held, such as kinetic, thermal, chemical, among others.
Closed System
A system where no energy is transferred into or out of it, resulting in zero net change in energy.
Kinetic Energy
Energy that an object possesses due to its motion.
Thermal Energy
Energy that an object possesses due to its temperature; the hotter an object, the more thermal energy it has.
Gravitational Potential Energy
Energy stored in an object as a result of its vertical position or height.
Conservation of Energy Principle
The principle stating that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed.
Dissipated Energy
Energy that is 'lost' during a transfer, often released as thermal energy to surroundings.
Work Done
A term synonymous with energy transferred, often by force moving an object over a distance.
Mechanical Energy Transfer
Energy transfer that occurs when a force causes an object to move, such as pushing or pulling.
Electrical Energy Transfer
Energy transfer that occurs through moving charges against electrical resistance.
Radiation Energy Transfer
Energy transfer that occurs via waves, such as light from the sun.
Energy Transfer Diagram
A visual representation of energy stores and transfers, using boxes for stores and arrows for transfers.
