Risk management
The process of identifying and analyzing the exposure to hazards, selecting appropriate techniques to handle exposures, implementing chosen techniques, and monitoring the results of those techniques.
Community risk management
A section of the risk management plan involving evaluating and managing risks for the entire community, providing emergency services to meet the agency's mission, and ensuring the agency can perform its mission.
Organizational risk management
A section of the risk management plan that evaluates risks and hazards that can affect the organization and provides control measures to reduce the frequency, severity, and probability of a negative event.
Operational risk management
A section of the risk management plan that assesses risks and hazards emergency responders face while performing operations, including how to evaluate risk on the scene of incidents.
Risk Control Measures
Methods used to manage risk aimed at reducing the likelihood of accidents or to mitigate the severity of incidents at both organizational and operational levels.
Administrative controls
A category of risk control measures including SOPs/SOGs, training and educational programs, health, safety, and wellness programs, and regulations and standards.
Engineering controls
A category of risk control measures including safety features incorporated into facilities, equipment, apparatus, mechanical ventilation, and tool and equipment design.
Personal protection
A category of risk control measures including personal protective equipment and lockout/tagout programs.
