Multiple Myeloma
A primary bone neoplasm found in older individuals characterized by malignant plasma cells.
Malignant plasma cells
Cells that secrete antibody known as myeloma protein or the "M" spike.
Myeloma protein
An antibody secreted by malignant plasma cells, also referred to as the "M" spike.
Bence-Jones protein
The name given to the immunoglobulin (Ig) light chain in Multiple Myeloma.
Ig light chain
The specific component that constitutes the Bence-Jones protein.
VERTEBRATE
A specific location of skeletal involvement in Multiple Myeloma, alongside the skull and long bones.
OAF’s
Cytokines that play a role in plasma cell proliferation and osteoclast activity.
Plasma cell proliferation
One of the two primary biological processes involving the role of cytokines (OAF's).
Osteoclast activity
A process stimulated by cytokines (OAF's) that contributes to skeletal involvement in the disease.
Monoclonal
A protein spike category used in diagnosing or contrasting conditions like Multiple Myeloma.
Polyclonal
A category mentioned in contrast to monoclonal and normal protein patterns.
Waldenströms Macroglobulinemia
A condition that is specifically contrasted with Multiple Myeloma in clinical study.
Hypercalcemia
One of the clinical presentations of Multiple Myeloma involving elevated calcium level.
Systemic infection
A clinical presentation identified in patients with Multiple Myeloma.
Renal disease
A potential clinical sign or presentation of Multiple Myeloma affecting kidney function.
Pathologic fractures
Bone fractures resulting from the skeletal involvement of Multiple Myeloma.
Primary bone neoplasm
The classification of Multiple Myeloma in relation to its origin and the age of individuals affected.
Skull
A site of skeletal involvement specifically mentioned in the lecture notes.
Long bones
Bones identified as being involved in the skeletal pathology of Multiple Myeloma.
"M" spike
The antibody or myeloma protein secreted by malignant plasma cells.
