Inattentional blindness
A phenomenon that occurs when people fail to notice something even though it is in clear view.
Perceptual load
The degree to which a task demands attention
Research by Cartwright-Finch & Lavie (2007) indicates tasks with high loads are more likely to yield inattentional blindness.
Gorillas in Our Midst Study
Study by Simons & Chabris (1999) found that 46% of observers failed to report seeing a woman with an umbrella or a person in a gorilla suit walking through a game.
Lung nodules
