Role of mRNA in gene expression
Active mRNA is translated into proteins which control processes in the cell and forms part of the cell structure
Why do cells specialise/differentiate?
only some genes are switched on
Switched on genes produce active mRNA which is then translated into proteins
The protein produced determines the cell structure
What is the Lac Operon?
Lactose stops the repressor molecule from preventing RNA polymerase binding to the operator gene region of DNA. This switches the gene on so the cell doesn’t waste resources making enzymes.
