Pure Substance
A form of matter which can only be an element or compound
Element
Cannot be broken down and consists of only one atom Ex: AU - only gold
Compound
Made up of two or more elements and can be broken up Ex: Water - Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms
Mixture
A combination of two or more pure substances that are not chemically bonded
Homogeneous mixture
A mixture where the components are evenly distributed and are not visible to the naked eye. Ex: Saltwater - Dissovled so it looks like one mixture
Heterogeneous
A mixture where you can see the two separating. Ex: Hawaiian pizza or oil and water
