Global hunger index

The global hunger index (GHI): A tool designed to measure and track hunger at global, regional, and national levels, reflecting multiple dimensions of hunger over time (100 point scale)

• Undernourishment: insufficient caloric intake  

• Child stunting: the share of children under age 5 who have low height for their age due to chronic undernutrition 

• Child wasting: the number of children who have low height for their height, reflecting acute undernutrition 

• Child mortality: the number of children who die before their 5th birthday (malnutrition and unhealthy environments)

GINI Index - The state of global income inequality

Level of income inequality measures from 0 (perfect equality) to 100 (total inequality)

Human development index

a summary of  average achievement in key dimensions of human development; a long and healthy life being knowledgeable and having a decent standard of living 

• Higher in better-developed countries - highest in Switzerland

• Essential dimensions

  • Good standard of living

Education Index:

measured by combining the average years of schooling for adults with the expected years of schooling for children, each receiving a 50% weight (by diving it by two) 

• Formula: EI = (MYSI + EYSI) /2 

• MYSI = mean years of schooling index

Gender inequality index: 

 three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment, and the labor market

• Highest inequality in Yemmen, and other African countries

• Highest equality in Europe

Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) index:

• Four components: water access, water equality, sanitation access, sanitation equity

  • A country with the worst WASH: Chad 

  • Country doing the best with WASH: European countries 

• Scores on a range from 0 to 1 

• Prioritizing water for the world's high-priority countries

Global Peace Index (GPI)

• Produced by the institute for economics and Peace (IEP) 

• The world's leading measure of global peacefulness 

• Covers 99.7% of the world's population (three domains)  

  • The level of societal safety and security 

  • The extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict 

  • The degree of militarization

The Climate Change Performance Index

an instrument to enable transparency in national and international climate policy. Factors:

• Climate policy

Kunming mortal global biodiversity framework

provided renewed implementation Goal 15, outlined four outcome-oriented goals to be achieved by 2050, and 23 goals targeted by 2030

• A historic agreement omitting nations to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030

• 70% biodiversity decline in the last 50 years 

• Adopted in Montreal on December 19th, 2022, and commits 196 countries to tackling nature loss
