Extracellular matrix of connective tissue
Made up of fibers and ground substance.
Major tissue types
Muscle, epithelial, connective, and nervous tissue.
Tight junctions
Prevent fluids from seeping between epithelial cells.
Epithelial tissue locations
Glands, lining abdominal cavity, outer covering of internal organs (e.g., heart), outer layer of integument (skin), and lining of oral and nasal cavities.
Cartilage degeneration cause
Lack of exercise can cause cartilage at weight-bearing joints to degenerate.
Transitional epithelium location
Found in the urinary system.
Totipotent stem cell
A type of cell with the potential to develop into any type of human cell, including cells of the placenta and amniotic sac.
Areolar connective tissue
Widely distributed underneath epithelia such as the skin, acting as a reservoir of water and salts for surrounding tissues.
