What are the five organizational levels of the human body?
Cellular level, Tissue level, Organ level, System level, Organism level.
What does the term 'anatomical position' refer to?
The standard position of the body used as a reference point in anatomical terminology.
What are the three major body planes?
Median (midsagittal), Frontal (coronal), Horizontal (transverse).
What are the four quadrants of the abdominal cavity?
Right upper quadrant (RUQ), Left upper quadrant (LUQ), Right lower quadrant (RLQ), Left lower quadrant (LLQ).
What are the nine regions of the abdomen for locating organs?
Right hypochondriac, Epigastric, Left hypochondriac, Right lumbar, Umbilical, Left lumbar, Right inguinal, Hypogastric, Left inguinal.
What is an endoscopy?
A visual examination of an organ or cavity using an endoscope.
What is the purpose of a radiograph?
To produce an image of internal structures using ionizing radiation waves.
What does MRI stand for and what is its function?
Magnetic resonance imaging; it uses electromagnetic energy to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body.
What does ultrasound (US) use to produce images?
Ultra-high-frequency sound waves emitted by a transducer.
What is PET in medical terminology?
Positron emission tomography; a diagnostic procedure using radioactive tracers to image metabolic activity.
What is the process of anastomosis?
Surgical joining of two ducts, vessels, or bowel segments.
What is cauterization?
The process of burning abnormal tissue for therapeutic purposes.
