synarthosis joints
immovable joints
amphiarthrosis joint
slightly movable joint
diarthrosis joint
freely movable joint, all are synovial
fibrous joints
-no joint cavity
-dense regular connective tissue
-immoveable
Gomphosis (fibrous joint)
"Peg in socket" fibrous joint. Periodontal membrane; immovable joint
suture (fibrous joint)
Joint held together with very short, interconnecting fibers, and bone edges interlock. Found only in the skull.
Syndesmosis (fibrous joint)
Joint held together by a ligament. Fibrous tissue can vary in length, but is longer than in sutures.
cartilaginous joints
-no joint cavity
-connected entirely by cartilage
-slightly moveable
synchondrosis (cartilaginous joint)
a functional classification of joints in which the connecting material is hyaline cartilage
symphysis joint
-bone connected to bone by fibrocartilage
-slightly moveable
synovial joints
Joint cavity containing small amount of synovial fluid secreted by synovial membrane into a potential space
