Receptor
A sensor that detects a particular stimulus or environmental change.
Control centre
Receives and processes information from the receptor and sends commands to the effector.
Effector
A cell or organ that responds to commands from the control centre.
Negative feedback
A mechanism that opposes or negates the original stimulus to maintain homeostasis.
Positive feedback
A mechanism that amplifies or enhances the original change in conditions.
