Physical Education (PE)
An essential part of Health and Wellness that helps students develop healthy habits through regular physical activity, proper nutrition, and informed lifestyle choices.
UNESCO (2015) Definition of PE
The planned, progressive, and inclusive learning experience that develops students' physical competence, health, confidence, and lifelong participation in physical activity.
SHAPE America (2014) Definition of PE
An academic subject that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve and maintain a physically active and healthy lifestyle.
Bucher and Wuest (2017) Definition of PE
An integral part of the total education process that uses physical activities to develop individuals physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and morally.
Primary Goal of Physical Education
To develop physically educated individuals who value and maintain an active lifestyle.
Physical Fitness (PE Goal)
To develop cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and healthy body composition.
Motor Skills (PE Goal)
To help students acquire fundamental and specialized movement skills necessary for sports, recreation, and daily living.
Positive Values (PE Goal)
The instillation of discipline, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, respect, fairness, responsibility, and self-confidence.
Physical Development (Objective)
The development of physical fitness, coordination, balance, agility, flexibility, and overall health.

Increasing student understanding of health concepts, exercise principles, nutrition, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices.
Emotional Development (Objective)
