Respiratory Organs

Nose

Structure where air is cleaned in the nasal cavity, as thin nose hairs and mucus protect dust and pollen.

Mouth

Structure where air can also enter, where saliva and mucus traps dirt particles.

Pharynx

Structure where the walls of the nose and mouth meet, opening into two pathways: esophagus and trachea.

Epiglottis

An important flap located at the pharynx that closes off the trachea when we swallow.

Larynx

Structure also known as the voice box, made up of vocal cords that produce sound when air passes through it.

Adam's apple

Structure formed by rings of cartilage that surround the larynx.

Trachea

Structure also known as the windpipe, as much as a garden hose, through which air travels before it reaches the lungs.

Bronchus

Structure at the end of the trachea where the pathways split into two called the bronchi.

Lungs

Organs where gas exchange takes place, collecting the air that we inhale.

Alveoli

Small air bubbles located inside the lungs.
